About a week ago, I was sufficiently intrigued by a recipe for “Chinese Cake” in the “Radiation Cookery Book” (37th edition, 1950) to try my hand at home baking for the first time in many years. I made two, and I have just started on the second – the first having kept me in afternoon tea for a whole week. I doubt if there is anything really Chinese about the recipe, although the cinnamon and cloves do give it a sort of Far Eastern vibe.
