OATS 101 😋
My family loves oats – in the summer we eat cold overnight oats, and as the temperature outside drops, we’re all about hot creamy cereal! But it hasn’t always been like this! I used to hate oats, and it took me a while to figure out the best way to make a perfect pot of cereal. But once you’ve mastered it, you can have it everyday and never get bored. Try my super creamy oats and let me know what you think below ⬇️
👉INGREDIENTS: (Serves 2) 1 cup old-fashioned oats
2 cups almond milk 1 cup water
a pinch of salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin spice 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 tablespoon honey one small banana, chopped 2 tablespoons of chopped almonds
Maple syrup and fresh strawberries for serving
• Place a cup of rolled oats, salt and cinnamon in a saucepan and turn the heat to medium-high. Toast the oats for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats start to smell fragrant and nutty. • Add a cup of water and a cup of milk, bring to a boil (about 5 minutes), and reduce the heat. Stir in honey, vanilla and chopped almonds, and continue to cook for about 5 minutes). • Add a cup of milk, chopped banana and stir well. Keep cooking for five more minutes, stirring from time to time to keep the oatmeal from sticking to the saucepan. Sprinkle with lemon juice (in combination with vanilla it creates that famous new-york-cheesecakish flavor profile). • Serve oats in bowls, topped with sliced strawberries and sweetened with maple syrup.
💡 Tips: If you add cold liquid to your oats and then bring them up to a boil together, the oatmeal will be creamier. A pinch of salt enhances the nutty flavor of oats.
